Welcome to the Ellen Colcord Gallery.Don’t be Afraid to Enter Finding the artist withinInterior Landscapes “As an artist I have always been aware from an early age of the concentration and focus present in my art-making process. I find a universe inside myself in which I can express without words which are often limiting and too concrete. Painting the “Inner Landscape” is a journey of exploration. My inner landscape is infinite and my search is for the spiritual. ” “She’s There, She’s Not” Ink, oil and hologram on wood panelI love holograms for their inner dimensions and 3d effect. Working with this hologram of Saraswati (goddess of knowledge, music, art and wisdom), I have painted meditation markings allowing for a flow of design. A meditation mark is like breathing in and breathing out. The flow is continuous and allows for marks that resemble rain drops, energy or intricate markings of delicate lace. “Crystal Capture” Collage, hologram, string, oil, citrine crystal on wood panelI have used the energizing and joy filled citrine cluster crystal as a conduit in this painting. The multi-faceted winged abstract with strong white meditation markings is a capable vehicle for capturing the crystal in it’s energetic motion. Drilled holes and strong string tie the crystal to the painting. If you read about citrine crystals you will find they have many positive attributes. I hope this painting imparts joy, mystery & wonder. “Ancient Stone Time Capsule“, Oil, ancient stone, crystal, stringInside the interior space resides an ancient stone (fossil nautiloid) and clear quartz crystal. Drilled holes allow for string to capture and secure the meaning of time. Meditation markings are created by brush strokes of smooth white oil paint allowing for the continuous ticking of time and its’ meaning in the millions of years of earthy inhabitants. I have created a number of works with the interior space marked off in a 3 dimensional like room. The room is a form of interior study both physical, spiritual and mental. It lays out a framework of space. I have never owned a house of my own and often wish for it having lived in apartments most of my adult life. These rooms in my interior “house” are where I can lay my imaginings down. “Walk About” Oil, Collage Paper, String, Crystal, HologramAn otherworldly walk, a crystal captures the holographic moment in this collaged interior. Although only 12” x 12” this small painting has infinite possibilities. Imagine it large scale wrapping around your walls, floors and ceiling. Imagine in order to walk in this painting space you need to have moon boots and lightness of foot. “Entanglement“, Hologram, Oil, Collage on WoodGanesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god of beginnings, who is traditionally worshipped before any major enterprise is the patron of intellectuals, bankers, scribes and authors. Ganesha is a remover of obstacles. A blue globe above the third eye generates an inward movement. Meditation marks criss cross in every direction activating the many parts of the physical. The body of this painting is contained in a sculptural solid shape. Within, there is movement in every direction. Perhaps the markings are a calculation of decision making which will allow it to unravel and move forward with clarity. “Hologram Happiness”, Hologram and Oil on WoodThis dancing deity is created with purpose, movement and exuberance. In her hand she carries your favorite platter of goodies. Meditation markings sway in cosmic cloud forms and generate a dreamlike moment of celebration. Use this picture to spark that extra something in life, a needed boost and moment of thankfulness for the beauty of unexpected gifts. “Dark Matters”, Hologram, Oil and Crystal on WoodThe image appears in the darkness, it is familiar but troubling. Will I ever be free of the shadow side? I peer inside the dream like ghost and try to imagine I can wish it away. The only way of finding peace is to accept it, bless it and to give it space to roam the universe of my body. I am not some perfect saint of pure positiveness. I am a swirling cosmos of all things light and dark. “Weather Storm”, Oil, Gesso, String on WoodFollowing the foot steps of my meditation markings I found a perfect storm. I peer down into an aerial swirling in every direction. It is an ocean of vortex and cyclone shape. Captured in string, a familiar form floats in perfect design. If you’re lost it’s ok, there is beauty here away from the boredom of the too familiar. “Green Landscape”, Oil, Collage, String and Crystal on WoodGreen has always been my favorite color. The variations of green are more abundant than any other color in the spectrum. During the pandemic 2020 it is even more important to me. Yearning for it, searching for it and finding it, I paint it excessively. Nature is calling us now. It is wanting us to commune with it, to find solace in the tragic moments and bring equilibrium where we are wobbling.
